HTMA Overview

HTMA shows how the body’s energy systems are out of balance. This can give you some guidelines on how to use diet and nutrition to balance out the imbalances. When your body's minerals are in balance and there are fewer toxins then it has the energy to heal all other problems on its own. It's a way to support and love your body.

  1. What do minerals do for our bodies?

  • The minerals in our systems are like spark plugs.

  • Minerals act as co-factors for thousands of enzyme reactions in every system in the body.

  • Minerals facilitate the transfer of nutrients across cell membranes, nothing gets in or out of the cell without minerals.

  • Minerals help keep the body in homeostasis.

  • Minerals are essential for the contraction and relaxation of every muscle.

  • Minerals are important for nerve transmission throughout the body

  • They cannot be produced, so they must be obtained through food.

  1. What can NOT be learned from HTMA?

  • The total body load of any single mineral level.

  • The diagnosis of any disease or illness.

  1. What can you learn from an HTMA test?

  • Metabolic Rate

  • Stage of stress and stress levels

  • Immune System

  • Adrenal and Thyroid Glandular Activity

  • Carbohydrates Tolerance

  • Energy levels

  • Eating enough protein or too many carbs

  • Tendencies for 30+ illnesses, often before they manifest

  • Personality Tendencies

4. What things are good to remember about HTMA testing?

  • HTMA reflects an overall picture that is influenced by many factors.

  • Each mineral adapts or compensates for every other mineral to some degree to maintain homeostasis.

  • The body progressively compensates for the weakness of any organ or system. One HTMA test only represents the top layer.

  • HTMA results represent an average rate of mineral accumulation, daily fluctuations are not revealed.

5. What may affect the HTMA reading?

  • Diet

  • Supplements/Vitamins

  • Prescriptions

  • Exercise

  • Lack of control of emotions

  • Fatigue

  • Occupations with toxic metal exposure

  • Infections

  • Environment (mold)

  • Anybody stressors.

6. How is a hair test different than a blood test?

  • Blood testing is excellent in many ways but it's not an accurate way to test the minerals and heavy metal levels.

  • Mineral levels are always lower in the blood so the detection of these elements can be difficult.

  • Mineral levels are kept relatively stable in the blood because the blood wants to maintain homeostasis, therefore the body will take minerals from the cells to balance the blood.

  • Toxic metals are not found in high concentrations in the blood unless there is an acute exposure.

  • Doing blood and hair tests together can be a very great full picture.

  • HTMA will show you the metabolic processes occurring within the cells as blood tests will not.

7. Why is hair a great thing to test?

  • The hair cells are a major site of metabolic activity throughout the entire body.

  • Mineral levels in the hair are 10x that in the blood.

  • HTMA testing is non-invasive.

  • Hair is a stable biopsy material

  • The hair requires no special handling

  • HTMA testing is cost-effective and accurate.

8. How often will I need to do a re-test?

  • It is helpful to do a retest about every 3 to 6 months to see your progress but it's up to you. Some people have had success with doing it only once a year.

  • After your minerals are stabilized you can do maintenance testing once a year.

9. Which lab is used for the HTMA test done through Know Your Wings?

I use Trace Mineral Laboratories out of Texas.

Trace Mineral Laboratory is a licensed and certified clinical laboratory that undergoes regular inspections with the Clinical Laboratory Division of the Department of Health and Human Services, HCFA.

Trace Elements uses ICP-Mass Spectrometry, the most modern and expensive analytical technique to be applied to routine elemental analysis.
